Look around you for ideas
You already found many ideas by looking at yourself and using your creativity. But there is another way to generate ideas and this is by looking around you. The first place to look is:
1) People around you
Talk to as many people as possible. Find out what work they do. Ask them why they do what they do. Do they enjoy what they do and how did they end up doing the work they do? You’ll be amazed at how much you can learn by talking to other people and maybe they’ll give you ideas which you have never even thought of! Look at people or things around you. Things that already exist. What problems do people have with them? Could you make it better?
Technology is very important if you want to start a business. Look at the technology you already have access to. Do you have a computer, do you have Internet? Perhaps you want to begin an Internet-based business? If so, what? (Look again at the section on creativity and the development of ideas.) Think of things such as: What are the needs out there? What would you really like to have?
Also look at what you can do. Do you know how to develop a webpage? If not, how can you find out? Perhaps you can buy a book or ask someone to teach you? Talk to other people who have done it and ask them to help you and give you ideas. Take another look at what you have in your house: Do you have a video camera? What can you do with it? Perhaps you can record sports events and sell the video to parents? You could also make videos of concerts or parties. The same applies to a camera – what can you do with it? Do you have a television set and a video machine or DVD player? Perhaps you can tape people’s favourite programmes for them when they go on holiday? There are so many possibilities!
3) Success stories
Look how other children have done it. Especially other children who are successful entrepreneurs. A person can learn a lot from them. Decide what you would do in such a situation. What would you have done differently? What can you learn from it? Do you think it’s a good idea? Why? Why not? Do they give you ideas for your own business?
